Troubleshooting

Indexed by what you notice, not by what the subsystem is called — because when something is wrong you know there's no sound, not that it's a routing problem.

5 of the 7 problems below are not faults. They are documented behaviour that looks like a fault, and they are marked working as designed. “Your unit is fine” is a useful answer and nobody publishes it.

My footswitches are doing the wrong thing

The unit is in a different footswitch mode

Working as designed

In Play view, press ◀ PAGE or PAGE ▶ to cycle through Stomp, Scroll, Preset and Snapshot. This is the most common HX Stomp question by a distance.

I can't work out how to save

There is no save button

Working as designed

Hold HOME and press ACTION. The word SAVE printed under the Upper Knob describes that gesture, not the knob.

It won't power up, or it cuts out on my pedalboard

The supply cannot deliver 3 amps

It needs 9 V at 3 A from a single output. Most isolated pedalboard supplies cannot. Use the adapter that came with it — Line 6 recommend nothing else.

Inputs and outputs

It sounds thin or fizzy

A cab block is running into a real guitar amp

Bypass the cab. Into a real amp and speaker you want no speaker simulation; into headphones, a powered speaker or the desk you want it on.

Helix 3.80 Owner's Manual

You are only using the RIGHT output

Working as designed

Use L/MONO for a mono rig. The right jack alone gives you half the signal.

Rig setup

A parameter I expect isn't there

Three knobs cannot show everything

Working as designed

Press ◀ PAGE ▶ in Edit view. Most blocks have several pages and the first one is only the beginning.

I can't find the tuner

It is on a hold, not a press

Working as designed

Hold FS3. Touching it instead opens the tempo panel.
