What you actually bought

What this box is for, what it is not, and the one sentence that explains most of the confusion around it.

The one thing

It is a whole guitar rig in one box — amps, speakers, microphones and effects, all modelled. Whether it sounds right depends almost entirely on what you plug it into.

The short version

A 3U rack version of the Helix processor, driven either from its own front panel or from Helix Control — a twelve-switch footboard that connects over a single Cat5 cable and is sold separately. Same engine as the Floor, with studio I/O the Floor does not have.

Is this the right guide?

If your unit is a floorboard with a built-in expression pedal, read the Helix Floor guide — the sound engine is the same but the controls and jacks are not. Helix Control on its own is a controller, not a processor: it makes no sound without a Rack.

The thing everyone gets wrong first

On a Helix Rack, the question we see most is expecting footswitches in the box.

Helix Control is sold separately. Without it you drive the rack from its front panel and from HX Edit.
