The grid, and what runs out

How presets are built, and why the CPU meter is something you manage rather than a cap you hit.

The one thing

Replace duplicate blocks with channels. Four channels in one block cost far less than four blocks, and that single habit is most of preset optimisation on this platform.

Presets are blocks on a grid

A preset is built by dropping blocks into slots on a grid and connecting them with cables.

This device allows an amp and cab pair per preset.

Shunts

An empty slot does not pass signal on its own. Where you need to bridge a gap, you insert a shunt — an empty block whose only job is to pass audio through. A chain that looks connected but is silent is usually missing one.

The CPU is the real limit

Fractal publish a Preset CPU Limits chapter and mean it. Unlike Line 6, who cap particular block types, Fractal let you build what fits and stop you when the processor is full. The meter is something to watch rather than ignore.

The biggest single saving is channels. If you are duplicating a block to get two settings, you are paying twice for something channels give you free.
